Start a website – How to choose domain name

Over the last couple of weeks, I have noticed a couple of arcade blog / arcade collecting themed websites pop up. I have also had a couple of questions about starting / revising an existing arcade game website so I thought it might be appropriate to give some tips on choosing a name for your website / domain name / web address and what tools are available to do just that. A little history on Nutting & Associate’s Vector Prototype

There comes a time when true history turns into a story, or a legend. What were originally factual stories are passed on from person to person to the point where details are left out, and only the general ideas remain.

This is one of my passions that drives this blog. These creators that worked for the big arcade manufacturer’s won’t be available forever, and it has been nearly 30 years since some of these original games were developed. None of which were around at the time where the internet was booming.

Today we get a few more facts on Nutting & Associate’s – Earth, Friend Mission Prototype from the mouth of a former employee of Nutting and the truth of how this vector cockpit prototype was connected to Bally’s Tron. (more…)

My Ms. Pac-man Stenciling Progress – 2nd Coat of Glidden Blue

Last night I talked a little bit about my priming experiences with my Ms. Pac-man cabinet. I had mentioned I had put down a pretty ugly first coat of Glidden blue.

I am proud enough of this second coat of blue on my Ms. Pac-man to show it off here today. Just got finished and really happy with a couple of things, mostly how well the second coat covered up my first thick streaky coat of the Glidden Rhapsody. (more…)

USAmusements Auction Video

Over the weekend at the fall USAmusements auction I took a little video showing a bit of the auction for those of you who aren’t familiar with how and arcade game auction works in Indianapolis. It’s short, and only shows the auctioneer selling some of the miscellaneous parts and coin-op equipment but gives you a little bit of an idea of the setting. (more…)

Fall Indianapolis USAmusements Auction October 2008

Overall I was generally impressed with the USAmusements arcade game auction that took place in Indianapolis last Saturday. There was about the same amount of classic arcade games, but in terms of volume I would say that there were about 20% more games than usual, and quite a few more pinballs. I got photos of just about everything, and prices for a handful of items. (more…)

How to vectorize arcade game artwork

Earlier in 2008 when I was really pushing to see what sort of traffic I could get on this arcade blog, I was starting to gather the best arcade artwork resources here under one roof.

I had contacted Tom Van Horn to see if he would let me reproduce (with credit of course) his very nice tutorial PDF on how to use a vector program to trace and then reproduce your arcade game artwork. I thought that this resource could be more easily found if made into HTML pages will a greater density of keywords and keep the PDF as a compliment to download and easily read offline, print, whatever was needed. A pretty good idea I thought. (more…)

Rotheblog Arcade Game Shirts

Just in time for the Indianapolis auction, I got a couple of my newly designed arcade game t-shirts in the mail. I also got some professional photos taken and got a couple of those in email tonight. For now, I chose one for the ‘Rotheblog About‘ page. This may change, but for all of those who have been reading and were curious to see what I look like now’s your chance. (more…)
