Agent X
Final Dimensions for Agent X Kickplate
I got the dimensions for the artwork over the weekend, so I decided tonight I would give it a shot and see how far things were off in terms of real dimensions.
The dimensions I was given for the Agent X kickplate artwork are; (Mind you, these are the same for a Crystal Castles and I even think a Star Wars cab)
- Total Height of Kickplate / Coin Door Area = 29.625 in.
- Total Width of Kickplate / Coin Door Area = 23.75 in.
- Total Width of Coin Door (To Outer Frame Edge)= 8 in.
- Total Height of Coin Door (To Outer Frame Edge)= 20 11/16 in.
- Measurement down from top of kickplate to top of Coin Door edge = 1 1/2 in.
I don’t have a measurement from the left or the right of the kickplate to the inner edge of the Coin Door, which would give me very precise alignment, but this isn’t a film but a replication, so it will never be perfect.
When I made my Illustrator canvas the right size, and scaled everything up, I did really well. The Coin Door fit perfect in the spaces drawn for it. The only thing that I need to make a decision on is that the artwork is a little tall. There is excess border on the top, so nothing important that would be cut off for the most part. Now, I could just cut it off, and actually lose one green circle on the right, or I could scale it down to fit. It wouldn’t be proportionate, but for about .75 of an inch, you wouldn’t even notice the distortion unless you had two machines side by side. But one thing is for sure, I probably won’t go back and readjust all of the artwork just to get that green circle in the printing area at the top right.
I have to talk to Richard to kind of see what he thinks.
Image of the Agent X kickplate
It’s been a week, and I don’t have dimensions just yet, so I thought I would post what I have. If I haven’t said this before, I will say it now. JPG quality is for the web, and is not representative of print colors. So keep that in mind when viewing, that and this hasn’t been color matched yet.
Finishing touches on Agent X kickplate
In some stage, it is finished! Whoo, what a ton of work. I might have reconsidered if I knew going in the amount of work this would have been. A lot of hours, and a lot of my precious time taken up on this thing.
I matched thickness on borders tonight and adjusted surrounding artwork. That sounds simple enough, but took forever. A lot of guides, a lot of dragging and adjusting control points. I also did some of the final stuff like make clipping masks and double check the thickness of the little repeating squares and the circles on the main border.
Now, I need actual dimensions of the artwork and to color match it. I have to wait for that info, but for now my part is done. If it takes awhile to get that stuff, I will post a final image here.
Measurements and more robots on Agent X kickplate
Felt refreshed enough now that I took a little bit of a break from working on this artwork that I got back at it today. I redrew the arms, or about 60% of them, from the closer more details photos I had gotten later on. I spliced that artwork into the robot I had, making a copy of the finished one before I started working and then I had a copy of the after as well.
I moved the robot over, duplicated it, rotated and sized it until I had three that fit really well like the originals on the kickplate.
Then I started to attack the borders. I drew the outer black border, and the beveled green towards the outside. I started to adjust them so I had straighter lines, things were equal, etc. etc. I evened up the top of the kickplate and called it good for now.
I had to get measurements from Richard on this piece probably next. But in terms of the art, I can make the artwork butt up nicer to the borders and I can check my spacing a little bit. I also have to make masks for the robots, because the way I drew it with negative space more than individual objects I can’t just push the robots back in the stacking order.
Working on Agent X kickplate border pattern
Spent a little time tonight in starting on the complex border for the kickplate artwork. I drew the little rounded rectangle with the
end notches, and repeated it for the outside border of the artwork. Next, I do the same for around the inside of the artwork by the coin door, and then go back and make sure the black and green borders are straight.
Black fill on Agent X robots
Worked on the artwork just a little tonight. I finished the outline for the robot so I could make the main black fill. I traced it as
best as I could see, knowing that at the very least I would have to go back and redo the detail on the arms. But Richard had emailed to see where I was at, so I thought it would be nice to show him this piece at least, since it has so much detail.
Only arms left on Agent X robots
Worked over the weekend on the Agent X artwork. I got the antenna done, the rest of the arms, the remaining shapes on the base and the outline shape of the robot, so for all intensive purposes he could be finished. But frustrating enough, I was looking at the hi-res photos that were sent to me, and some small details got dropped in the arms and the green section on the robot from the original image I was working from. I already retraced the green area and transferred it. The arms are now left to do. Who would of thought this would have been so much work for one robot?
