What’s it worth? Atari Asteroids Deluxe – Grand Island, Nebraska
In today’s edition of ‘What’s it worth?’, here is a recently ended auction on eBay for a working Asteroids Deluxe out two hours west of Omaha Nebraska.
Atari Asteroids Deluxe – Value
Editor’s note: This auction closed during the international Coronavirus pandemic, the value of this machine may be more / less it’s typical value.
Final Bid Price for Atari Asteroids Deluxe: $1,400
From what is shown in the photos, this machine appears to be in pretty decent shape. The right side of the cabinet appears to be in really good shape, with no major dings or gouges, just a couple of drag marks and a bit of ragged edge on the vinyl at the bottom (common). But, the left side isn’t shown and could be in a completely different condition. Even small details like working bulbs behind the coin returns (shown in photos) and behind the marquee (not shown) can be indicators of how well an arcade machine has been maintained.
The description is minimal, so it’s hard to know what (if any) of the artwork is reproduction vs. original like the control panel overlay. It sounds like the game was ‘serviced’, that would have been a good detail to dig into further – what kind of servicing? Was work done on the monitor, the power supply, the boardset or something else – and what were the specifics. This is such a classic Atari game that it is unlikely this cabinet has been issue free / no work done. The buyer would want to inspect the work that was gone on the monitor or the main boardset and look for any damage to traces, jumpers, burnt pins, etc.
This was a solid price for a game located in Grand Island, NE – a non-urban area. Here are the photos and a screenshot of the arcade machine and information from eBay.
