Photos of a Space Stranger – Yachiyo Electronics
I’ve always loved oddball uprights – a couple of photos of a Space Stranger that popped up in California last week.
Space Stranger Upright – Yachiyo Electronics
Harry Gloth came across this Space Stranger near his home in Walnut Creek, California. In doing some research he also came across photos from a completed auction for another one of these uprights. I’ve included those photos (Photos 4 & 5) below to show some additional details of the control panel and bezel for a Space Stranger.
The artwork on the marquee is particularly detailed and unique, with the text treatment at the bottom. The deep maroon on the bezel also strikes me as an uncommon color and really catches the eye. The sideart…. leaves something to be desired 🙂
I know Harry would love to have a scan of the control panel to use for some reproduction artwork. It would be great to see that artwork in its entirety as it looks to be quite detailed. Please contact me if you have this cabinet and might be able to help out with a scan.

The image on the control panel is a copy of the Ralph McQuarrie TIE fighter interior conceptual painting, from the original STAR WARS.

Of course, we all know the shameless ripoffs in those days. They could get away with those things, per-internet.
Cheers.
